Wakefield 300 2013

[singlepic id=341 w=160 h=120 mode=web20 float=left]Another amazing result for TargaRacing.com.au at this years Wakefield 300 with more podium finishes following-on from our success at the Winton 300. Four of our NC model Mazda MX5’s jockeyed for position during the rolling start piloted by Daniel Reynolds Morgan Freemantle, Andrew Dodd Hartley Sutcliffe, Adam Dodd Mark Bell, Geoff Kennedy and Matilda Mravicic.

[singlepic id=335 w=160 h=120 mode=web20 float=right]At the fall of the flag Hartley Sutcliffe and Andrew McKay took a well deserved 2nd place in class and where unlucky not to take the win. With only 20 laps remaining Sutcliffe was forced to pit after a back-marker damaged the right flank of his NC MX5. Both Sutcliffe and McKay had built such a substantial lead that they finished only 10 seconds behind the class winners despite the damage and subsequent pit-stop.

[singlepic id=346 w=160 h=120 mode=web20 float=left]Mark Bell & Adam Dodd secured 3rd and where also unlucky as they suffered a minor technical issue during Dodd’s stint which forced them to pit out of sequence. Third place was ultimately a remarkable result.

[singlepic id=330 w=120 h=90 mode=web20 float=right]Geoff Kennedy & Matilda Mravicic finished 4th and fell foul of the safety car which forced them to drop 2 laps during the 300km journey. Mravicic & Kennedy demonstrated remarkable speed all weekend particularly during the very wet practice sessions.

[singlepic id=325 w=120 h=90 mode=web20 float=left]Daniel Reynolds and Morgan Freemantle lapped the 2.2km circuit a little too quickly and had to be promoted to the faster “D3” class after practice and qualifying. Despite never having driven a “tin-top” both Reynolds & Freemantle were quick ‘out-of-the-box’ in the dry and the wet….on VERY old tyres. Freemantle started the race and kept the class leader in sight for the entire stint. Reynolds was unlucky to suffer a technical issue during his stint forcing them to retire. Knowing what could have been, both Freemantle & Reynolds are now considering the possibilities of contesting the Winton 300 in November.

The results have been remarkable and we’d like to acknowledge our drivers and crew. Congratulations to;

Hartley Sutcliffe & Andrew McKay: 2nd in class

Mark Bell & Adam Dodd: 3rd in class

Geoff Kennedy & Matilda Mravicic: 4th in class

[singlepic id=312 w=180 h=160 mode=web20 float=right]Commiseration’s to Morgan Freemantle & Daniel Reynolds who also set the fastest time for the NC model MX5’s.

Many thanks to Bill Kinnane, Russell Windebank, Chris Gough, Nick Martinenko & Zane AL-Said.

TargaRacing.com.au would also like to thank and acknowledge the Wakefield Park staff and volunteers. The event was run flawlessly and we’re already looking forward to 2014. ROLL ON WINTON 300!
