Team TargaRacing has successfully completed the 2012 Targa Tasmania with 2 cars on the podium. Adam Spence/Tracey Button finished 2nd and Hartley Sutcliffe/Andrew McKay in 3rd in the Showroom class.

The weather this year was particularly challenging with competitors experiencing heavy rain and fog in numerous stages. The conditions particularly suited the MX5’s very well whist the more powerful cars struggled.

By finishing 3rd Hartley also wrapped up 2nd place in the 2012 Australian Targa Championship for the Showroom class.

After taking the battle to the Spence/Button BMW early on, the Dodd/Challoner Miles MX5 slipped of the road early on day 4 taking them out of a strong position. Damage to the steering, suspension, and bodywork kept the service crew working hard and the car was ready to go for the final day.  Dodd/Challoner Miles pushed hard on this last day and set the fastest time outright in Showroom class on the 2nd last stage!!

The other TargaRacing crews traded times and position over the whole event with the cars sometimes separated by only seconds.

Our Indonesian crew of Bunj Noor and Andy Fendyarto drove very well and got faster and faster as the event progressed. Bunj said “…this event is so good, Andy and I have had so much fun.  The other drivers and officials are all so friendly. We will be back next time for sure”

Adam Spence commented, “Congratulations to all our TargaRacing crews who have done us very proud in this years Targa Tasmania. On a personal level, after 6 Targa Tasmania events I have fulfilled a dream by finishing on the podium in 2nd place. I also earned my gold Targa trophy plate achieved by finishing all stages in 3 consecutive Targa events within the allocated time.  Tracey achieved her platinum trophy, for 6 years in a row”

Team Manager Chris Gough+ added, “A fantastic result for the whole team and for all our crews who drove superbly in very testing conditions.  This year was our biggest year yet with 6 TargaRacing cars completing this epic event with just a few scratches.  This event more than any other tests the whole team especially the service crew who again have delivered a faultless performance at all time.  Our thanks and gratitude goes out to them”
